The Rolling Stones theme on American Idol just keeps extending. Earlier this week the contestants were all charged with finding a Stones ballad that they could interpret for Tuesday night’s competition. The following night the program welcomed back one of the stars from a previous season when David Cook rocked the tune “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.”
After the performance Ryan Seacrest approached Cook to see what he thought about the performance and what it was like to return to idol. Cook said that he was glad to back, glad that he didn’t have to be concerned about being sent home and that he is working on a brand new album.
The former Idol star has seen tons of success, with his first album peaking at number three on the Billboard charts. Fans are tuned into to see what he will offer next!

The Rolling Stones song competition on American Idol definitely brought out some winners and losers. Everyone pretty agreed that Siobhan Magnus was the top performer of the night with a flawless, dramatic version of the ballad “Paint It Black,” but many also speculated that Tim Urban would be the one to go after his reggae-influenced “Under My Thumb.” Lacey Brown was ultimately booted from the competition, although Paige Miles joined her in the bottom two.
This article in People Magazine points out Miles’ talents and her shortcomings saying, “Even with her voice still a little raw from laryngitis, she remains a powerful singer – as good as Siobhan Magnus, and never as shrill – but she hasn’t generated much excitement, and the judges are never squarely in her corner. She’s an unknown, which isn’t good this far in.” See Miles’ rendition of “Honky Tonk Woman” here.

Rolling Stones night had all of the contestants vying for the top position, but it was Siobhan Magnus who seemed to walk away with the most praise from judges. Magnus sang a very melodramatic version of the song, “Paint It Black.” Adorned in a smart dress and with cute little curls, Magnus set the stage for the night. Take a listen to her “Paint It Black” interpretation here. By the way, I love her dress and shoe combo…very cool.
Other Idol hopefuls tried out their Mick Jagger impersonations with Crystal Bowersox singing “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” Aaron Kelly tried out his vocal chords to “Angie” and Tim Urban went with “Under My Thumb,” which turned out to be the flop of the night. The reggae theme did not jive well with this musical selection unfortunately. But these are all opinions…what’s your take?

According to Keith Richards, the Rolling Stones may be headed back to the recording studio sometime this year. The guitarist speculated to Rolling Stone magazine that the “bad boys of rock” may be writing new material for an upcoming album, yet to be titled. Richards, however, ruled out the possibility of touring in 2010, saying, “I don’t know how the rest of them feel about roadwork at the moment. Maybe we’ll search for a different way for The Stones to go back on the road. Maybe not the stadiums anymore, maybe something different. You can’t go around in lemon-yellow tights forever.” You can’t?
The Stones last tour occurred in 2007 when they embarked on their Bigger Bang World Tour. The trek was a huge success, raking in hundreds of millions of dollars and putting the Stones as one of the top touring acts for that year.
Bummed out that they won’t be pulling out their yellow-lemon tights for a tour this year? Don’t panic…when they do decide to finally hit the road, you can always find a good deal on Rolling Stones concert tickets at StubHub.

Check out MTV.com, where actor Johnny Depp has revealed some more details about his upcoming documentary on Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. When appearing on “Friday Night with Jonathon Ross” along with director Tim Burton, Depp had a couple things to say about the upcoming Richards flick. “It’s a thing we’ve talked about for a number of years now. We finally had a moment, the two of us, to get together and do like a first installment if you will. So basically, all it is is exactly what Keith and I have been doing over the years. Just sit around in hotel rooms, gabbing, having a drink and we documented it. So it’s something we’re doing together and we did in five days. It went extremely well, incredible.”
The question of course remains…when will it be done? Keep up to date with all of the latest Richards-documentary news and get your Rolling Stones tickets today from StubHub.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the Top 12 contestants on American Idol will perform music from the Rolling Stones next week. The article says that during a commercial break during Wednesday night’s show, Ryan Seacrest taped a radio plug saying that the Top 12 aspiring singers will be trying their vocals to the Stones’ music collection. So the question is: Who will be singing “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” or “Brown Sugar?” Frankly I’m looking forward to a rendition of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” or perhaps “Start Me Up.” Oh I hope someone performs the latter one, with those same white pants and purple tank top that Mick Jagger dons in the music video. Also take note of the hip thrusts. This competition is going to be very interesting indeed.

Keith Richards has officially put a kibosh on the rumors that he and Ron Wood are sobriety buddies. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine Richards said, “Listen, the rumors of my sobriety are greatly exaggerated.” So if you found the news that Richards had quit drinking to be undeniably out-of-character, you were right!
There is still no official word about the status of his friend and bandmate Ronnie, who we all know has been struggling with alcoholism throughout his career. Of course who of the Stones isn’t struggling with alcoholism? Charlie Watts, perhaps? That dude seems to be the sanest of the four. Consider this: Watts married Shirley Ann Shepherd in 1964…and they are still married! He is also probably the best dressed, as an article in Vanity Fair emphasized in their International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame.
So here’s to Charlie: For managing to earn the title of “bad boy” thanks to his association with the Stones…without actually being one.

According to xfm.co.uk, Kiss’s Gene Simmons is eager to challenge some of the rock world’s best to an all out mega-rock-a-thon to see if they’ve got the chops to compete onstage. He was quoted as saying, “I would love to play on the same stage as U2, The Stones and anybody out there who considers themself a world champion.” The face-painted bad boy of rock continued, “You come on up on that stage with us baby. Show me what you got, and then we’ll show you what the big boys do.” That sounds like challenge indeed. Mick…what do you say, are you up for it?
From this blogger’s point of view, there is no competing with Mick and the Stones crew. Don’t believe me? Get your own pair of Rolling Stones concert tickets and see the boys play live onstage! Tickets are available on StubHub!
Keith Richards hinted during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine that the Stones may be headed back to the studio later this year. He said, “There’s no definite plans, but I can’t see any of them stopping. I wouldn’t be surprised if we did some recording later this year.” Richards, however wasn’t so forthcoming about plans for a possible tour (it would be their follow-up trek to 2007′s Bigger Bang Tour).
He told Rolling Stone, “Maybe we’ll search for a different way for the Stones to go back on the road. Maybe not the football stadiums anymore. Maybe something different. You can’t go around there in lemon-yellow tights forever.” Amen to that!
This is the most information we’ve gotten about possible new Stones material and if any other news regarding our favorite rockers hits the internet, we’ll have all the juicy details!
