Apparently Keith Richards would still like to be able to light up a cigarette wherever and whenever he feels like it. Of course he is denied that luxury since the U.K. banned smoking in public areas. Richards, who also has admitted that he regularly still smokes cannabis and hash has gone onto compare the current smoking ban to prohibition in 1920s America. Richards, in his usual way of articulating things said on the music site, NME, “It’s a drag because you’ve go to freeze your balls off to light a cigarette, you’ve got to go outside. It’s draconian-socially, politically correct bullshit. They’ll get over it.”
Of course Richards conveniently left out the health problems that smoking causes. But Richards, who has probably put more alcohol and drugs into his body that a collective of about 100 regular first year college students-doesn’t seem to concerned with the matters of health. He went on to say, “It’s [the ban] like prohibition, they tried to stop booze once. Ha, look what happened. It ruined America.” I guess we will see how many fines Richards will collect for disobeying a law that most likely will not be overturned anytime soon.
